PS4's PlayStation VR Headset to Cost $400-$600, Report Says

While Sony has yet to officially announce the price point for its upcoming virtual reality headset PlayStation VR, one research group has now provided a pricing prediction. In a new report from SuperData about the virtual reality market, the research group says you can expect it to cost between $400-$600.

By comparison, Oculus VR just yesterday announced that the first Oculus Rift consumer model will start at $600, a figure that does not include a capable PC that's required to run it.

One of the biggest differences between Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR is that if you're one of the 36 million people who already owns a PS4, you're good to go.

PlayStation executive Andrew House previously said that PlayStation VR would be priced as a new gaming platform. If he's talking about a traditional home console like the PS4, Xbox One, or Wii U, House's comments would suggest PlayStation VR will cost around $300-$400 or thereabouts.

The PS4 starts at $350.

PlayStation VR is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2016, though a specific release date has not been announced. Sony made no mention of PlayStation VR during its CES briefing this week. The headset is predicted to sell 1.9 million units in 2016, according to the same SuperData report.
